Sport is an extreme game of emotions, an expression of exhilarating intoxication and crushing discouragement, and at the same time, it is an exceptional field for the presentation of the sense of identity of a small or large community, a nation. At the same time, it is part of the evolution of culture and universal culture, so the presentation of its events can also be a means of better understanding our past and our humanity. To write sports history is to write history, but not on the basis of economy, warfare, politics or acting, literature, but by taking into account the facts of competition.
This book is the history of almost a century and a half, looking at our history from the point of view of sports, with the intention of showing that our fate is also instructive when viewed in this way. So it is not a detailed database, it is possible that several moments - which the reader rightly misses - have been omitted. But we believe that sport, as a "gift from God" that provides experience, bonding, and identity - or at least the bearer of the still-living need for all of this - has been summoned even against the trends of recent times. And to testify that we have something to remember.
