Product description
This is a book of adventures and mysteries, in which the story's "male-female, male-male and female-male" figures are intertwined to stimulate the reader's curiosity. The reader himself has to lift the splendid blanket embellished with the writer's imaginative digressions and quotations from them.
The English version of "Kafka on the Beach" is ranked among the top ten in the 2005 US Novel Market.
The hero of the even chapters is a strange, half-hearted, single-minded old man, Nakata, who has never recovered from his World War II injury, and for him, he drifts incomprehensibly towards Kafka, who is struggling with the loneliness and uncertainty of growing up. He doesn't even understand the context of the most ordinary things, yet he has many qualities that make him extraordinary. The two threads subtly and enigmatically connect chapters abounding in tragedy and comedy, dreams and deceptive facts, natural and unnatural sex, pain and wild humor. The undulating, restless texture of Kafka on the beach is woven from two extremely colorful and tangled strands. One of the unique lines (literally, because it runs through the odd chapters of the novel) is the story of Tamura Kafka, that of the fifteen-year-old boy who escapes from the Oedipus fate and goes in search of his mother and sister. Murakami also fascinates, amazes, entertains and makes you think with this novel.
