Belle da Costa Greene is a young woman blessed with exceptional education and impeccable taste, who one day receives an incredible opportunity from life. The fearsome banker J.P. Morgan is looking for a private librarian, someone who can help him acquire unique manuscripts and rare art treasures. Belle wins the job and earns the respect of her employer with her aptitude and professional knowledge. Soon all doors open for the girl, and she moves at home in New York's most prestigious salons as well as in the art market, in a world where only men were able to prevail. However, success comes at a serious price.
Belle keeps a serious secret: her real name is Belle Marion Greener, the daughter of Richard Greener, who gained fame as the first black student at Harvard and later as a determined black rights activist. In order to keep her job and her position in the highest circles, Belle must make a serious sacrifice. He must distance himself from his family, deny his roots, and cannot even trust those closest to him. But is it worth carrying such a burden to make your dreams come true?
Belle, Queen of the Library is the story of a special personality who became an inescapable figure in a world that, had she been aware of her true identity, would never have recognized her abilities.
"A breathtaking journey into New York's luxurious ballrooms and the tense world of auctions. A carefully written story of oppression, equality, and a woman's determined struggle to be herself in a cruel world." - Renee Rosen
