This eyepiece has a scale located in the plane of the objective aperture for measuring samples in millimeters or microns. The scale division is 0.1 mm. Instead of the usual 10x magnification eyepiece, it is mounted in a 30 mm diameter eyepiece tube. The scale must be calibrated for each lens used. This requires a calibration slide (micrometer object) with a scale of 0.01 mm. Place the slide on the microscope stage and rotate the eyepiece in the tube until the eyepiece and the slide scale are parallel to each other.

The graduation value of the eyepiece scale must also be determined for each objective. In the case of low magnification objectives, it is necessary to count how many divisions of the eyepiece scale fall on the scale of the calibration slide. For medium and high-magnification objectives, the reverse of this must be done, i.e. how many divisions of the slide scale fall on the eyepiece scale.

The division value (E) can then be calculated using the following formula: E = TL/A, where T – the division value of the micrometer slide scale (0.01 mm); L – the number of divisions on the scale of the slide; A - the number of divisions on the eyepiece scale.

To calculate the true linear size of the specimen, measure the length of the specimen on the eyepiece scale and multiply this value by the E value calculated for the objective.
