The Tragedy of Man - next to the Bán of Soldier József Bánk - is the greatest dramatic work of our national literature. His intellectual and artistic values ​​were quickly recognized by the theater-going public. In 1894, still in Paulay Ede's first direction, it reached its hundredth performance. Later, it was renovated several times, each time with great success. In 1934, the 500th performance was already celebrated at the National Theatre. After the Second World War, it was renovated for the first time in 1954. Since then, he has appeared regularly in the programs of our National Theater and in the programs of our rural theaters. Its popularity is also enhanced by the performances of the Szeged Outdoor Games. The Tragedy of Man is one of the best-known Hungarian classical works abroad. So far, it has been published in about 14 languages, and since the premiere in Hamburg, Vienna and Prague in 1892, it has been a well-deserved success on many stages in Europe.
