Specifications
The war correspondent reports on interesting and dangerous events in the world, which, if we are lucky, we follow sitting in the armchair on the other side of the world. His personality usually remains in the background, unless he himself becomes the center of some exciting event.
Lynsey Addario became a photographer by accident, thanks to a gift camera, and then, through a strange twist of fate, became a war correspondent. He was in Afghanistan even before the terrorist attack in New York in 2001, and then there was no stopping: he went from one war zone to another, from Iraq to Congo and from Sudan to Libya. He almost didn't leave the battlefields, the helmet and the bulletproof vest became the basic accessories of his wardrobe. In March 2011, he was kidnapped in Libya along with four fellow photographers by soldiers loyal to Gaddafi. He was released after a week of detention, but a month later two of his colleagues were killed during the fighting of the civil war. All of this led Lynsey to reflect, take stock and reshape her life. By 2015, he had gathered so much professional and personal experience that he felt it was time to summarize his career so far in writing. Maybe because the many experiences overflowed in him, maybe in memory of his lost colleagues, maybe as an explanation to his son, why his mother is not like other children's. Either way, her book reveals that Lynsey Addario is not only an excellent photographer, but also able to verbally capture both large and small events, historical and personal perspectives, just as she does behind the camera.
Steven Spielberg bought the rights to make a film of the highly successful book shortly after its publication.
