Lois Lowry - A boy (2021)

One day, a fainting young girl is washed ashore by the sea. The residents of the nearby village, who take him in, have no idea that he came from a society where people not only do not know colors, but also lack certain emotions in their world, and they happily tolerate the order created for them by the narrow elite. Claire happened to be designated as the birth mother by the decision-makers, and at the age of fourteen she had to give birth to a boy, who was immediately taken away from her in accordance with the customs. But the machine didn't work perfectly this time: Claire didn't get the pill, which deprives all members of society of disturbing feelings and ensures them a peaceful life free of doubts. Claire cannot give up her son, she wants to see him at all costs and find out what happened to him. So he risks everything to track her down.

In the book, the worlds and their characters appear one by one, which the author has already revealed to us in the novels The Keeper of Memories, Somewhere, Far Away and The Messenger, and we finally find out what the first volume does not give a clear answer to: is Jonas alive.
