Product description
A family of three is threatened with complete disintegration. They balance on the edge of the abyss every day.
Since her father's death, the eleven-year-old girl Ellen does not speak, and when she is at home, she hardly leaves her room. Neither does his brother, who even nails the door to his room to keep everyone out. Only their mother believes that the three of them can get close to each other again. We are a family of light, Konok repeats with conviction.
But for the time being, darkness reigns in the family's home; it seeps into the corners of the apartment, into the depths of the soul. The silence separating the three solidifies into an impenetrable wall. Ellen knows that she is the cause of everything, since her father's death is drying on her soul. He prayed for her death. And God heard his supplication. According to Ellen's conviction, she and God can fix the fact that the happiness of her childhood has been lost forever. Yet Ellen desperately longs for him to love again and be loved again.
Will the family, the mother and her two children, be able to find their way back together and start a new life on the ruins of the past?
Welcome to America is a disturbing, cruel, cathartic story about a special little girl who responds to the traumas that beset her with the only tool she has left: silence. The past and the present, memories and reality, the world of the living and the dead collide in the novel, which achieves a huge emotional impact with its minimalism. The reader watches with astonishment and shudder whether the eleven-year-old child finds the strength, the freedom of the soul, in the silence of his choice, with which he can get rid of his dark secret and return to life again, come out into the light.
