Kristin Hannah - Winter garden

A woman's captivating, heart-wrenching story of love, loss and redemption.
It is both an epic love story set in the WWII Soviet Union and an intimate portrait at the same time
about contemporary mothers and daughters, right at the crossroads of their lives. It explores the heartaches of war, the price of survival, and the ultimate triumph of the human spirit. This novel will haunt the reader long after the last page has been turned.
1941. Leningrad, the once magical city, was besieged by war, cut off from help and buried by snow. The city is full of desperate women who want to save their children, their families and themselves...
2000. Loss and age took a terrible toll on Ánya Withson. Finally, he contacts his estranged daughters. In a faltering, uncertain voice, he begins to weave his tale about a beautiful Russian girl who used to live in Leningrad with a tailor...
Nina and Meredith sit transfixed at their mother's bedside, listening to the story, which spans more than sixty years, from the horrors of besieged, war-torn Leningrad to present-day Alaska.
As they investigate the truth behind the story, Nina and Meredith uncover a shocking, seemingly unbelievable secret that shakes their family to its core and changes everything they believed about themselves.
