What does it matter that the body grew weaker and weaker, if neither the soul nor the mind slept; the Polish Pope did not intend to come down from the cross. The last volume of Hetman Chrystusa, while telling about the twilight of the pontificate, also tells about the continued intensive service, the heroic fulfillment of the Peter's mission until the end of his earthly existence.
The Holy Father did not have a peaceful old age. On the contrary - he fought, as never before, with the aggressive forces of evil, even within the Church itself. Losing his former ability to move put the brakes on his dynamism. He had to exchange the papal throne for a wheelchair. However, nothing was able to curb the evangelizing and priestly enthusiasm of Christ's general. In the period described in the volume - from the second half of 1997 to April 2, 2005 - II. János Pál made 26 apostolic visits abroad (two of them to his homeland), held his pilgrimages to Italy, visited parishes in Rome, and - until the final loss of his voice - held Wednesday general audiences and shared the Lord's Prayer with the faithful on Sundays. He taught, reminded, warned, wrote. He was able to lead the Church safely and unscathed into the third millennium of Christianity. He then gave him 27 years to sit on the throne of Peter (this was the third longest pontificate in history) and effectively protect the purity of the science of faith. Millions of believers around the world loudly demanded his immediate canonization on April 2, 2005.
Despite all this, II. After the death of János Pál, the attacks against him became even more powerful. For the representatives of evil, he remained dangerous - because of the timeless relevance of his teaching. Therefore, in these four voluminous volumes, the author, Jolanta Sosnowska, not only described the life of the Great Pole in detail, but also carefully conscientiously brought the papal thoughts and opinions on the most diverse aspects of the present world and human destiny in general closer to the reader. How fragile is our existence if we are separated from God - and nowadays maybe they don't want to make us do this from all sides, or even outright force us?
The author closes his work with a special prayer addressed to the saint, including the following: "Many of your warnings are being fulfilled before our eyes, because we did not take them seriously. But surely all is not lost. It is enough - just or very much - if we take your word, follow your example, and as you have done, we will evangelize others with our heads held high, without fear or shame. If we will demand of ourselves even when others will not demand of us..." Let's get up and go! The soldier of Christ will lead us.
