The FAM regulations distinguish between acceptance and periodical inspections. FAM devices must be subjected to an acceptance test before first use and after repair.

A device cannot be considered a FAM device until it is registered by an authorized testing laboratory - after the necessary test. This means that commercially available devices and tools sold under different brand names - even though 1000 V, the double triangle and the standard appear on them - are not FAM devices as long as they are not included in the register of the testing laboratory authorized by the FAM committee. It is FORBIDDEN to use such devices for performing FAM activities!
