Kisfalusi Gábor - A finommechanikai ipar meghonosítása Magyarországon - A Hungarian Optical Művek (MOM) vázlatos history
Product description
In 2001, a group of friends caring for MOM's memories founded the "Hungarian Optical Works Memorial Foundation". ... in 2009, at the initiative of the Memorial Foundation, a statue bowing towards the sky was erected in the MOM park.
The predecessor of the monument was a 6-meter high artificial stone statue erected in 1939 on the roof of one of the buildings.
We did not know the exact history of the original statue. By researching this, I reached the National Archives of the Hungarian National Archives, the Military History Archives, the Budapest Capital Archives and the National Széchényi Library. Using the opportunity, I also started researching the history of the factory before 1945. I regret to note that the newspaper articles and publications dealing with MOM published after 1950 contain many errors.
I had the idea of a MOM story to be written based on thorough archival research. The documents I reviewed are only a small part of the archival materials, which also took a lot of time. Therefore, I knew that this would be an impossible undertaking for me. In the meantime, I wrote a small book from the collected material.
The history of MOM is also linked to the beginning of the development of the Hungarian precision engineering industry, which is linked to the name of MOM's legal predecessor, the founder, Nándor Süss. On September 25, 2018, we celebrated the 170th anniversary of the birth of Nándor Süss.
With this little book, I would like to contribute to the commemorations of Nándor Süss.
