Product description
This is how the world ended - for another to begin. An inexplicable interstellar event destroys all organic life on Earth in just a few hours. However, a few thousand people manage to digitally copy their consciousness at the last moment, thus escaping death. After the apocalypse, searching for the purpose of their existence, they download themselves into working machines, military drones, sex robots and other machine bodies to build a new civilization in the place of the old one. As the years pass, they establish alliances, fight their own wars, develop various goals and ideologies, sometimes looking at the past with nostalgia, sometimes radically breaking with it. Grzes, the Polish programmer, is desperately trying to process the loss of the past, while accompanying the formation and search of the new humanity. But are the survivors of the apocalypse still human, or just the shadows of an extinct species? Does meat make us human or something else entirely? Jacek Dukaj (Extensa, Other Songs), also known among Hungarian readers, is one of the greatest Polish science fiction and fantasy writers, who is considered the worthy heir of Stanisław Lem. In his complex stories, he always focuses on people, and the inner characteristics of his characters concern him at least as much as the fantastic worlds that surround them. He has received numerous recognitions, in 2009 he received the European Union's Literary Award. Arriving in the Darkness is his latest novel, based on which Netflix created a series of the same name in 2020.
