Product description
Janet Auchincloss' life turned out just as she imagined. She always knew she would marry "upwards", as she did with her second husband, the well-to-do Hugh Auchinclos the younger. "Hughdie's not perfect, and neither am I," Janet confided, "but. we're a match." On the whole, she was content, although as a young woman of thirty-four she had made sacrifices when she married Hugh - she had to give up the passion that had characterized her marriage to her first husband, Jack Bouvier. However, he was pragmatic enough that once he made a decision, he never looked back. She had two daughters from her marriage to Bouvier, Jackie, then twenty-three, and Lee, nineteen. She and Hugh raised two children together: seven-year-old Janet and five-year-old Jamie. Jackie and Lee Bouvier could not have been more different, and always have been. Somehow it always seemed that Jackie, who was three years older than Lee, was worth more of the two. For example, when she and Lee were little and role-playing, Jackie was always the princess and Lee was always her hard-working maid or maid of honor. Lee didn't mind getting this role. Ironically, this foreshadowed the characteristics of their later very complex relationship.
