In the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, at a depth of thousands of meters, a volcanic mountain range winds. Here, on the border of the Eurasian and North American plates, are the most active volcanoes on Earth. In one place, the ridge rises above the surface: this is Iceland - the land of ice, the cradle of craters, the home of geysers. This is a special region, where gigantic forces emerging from the Earth's belly and the frozen surface have been fighting each other for thousands of years. Thousands of tourists are dazzled by the infernal evaporations, boiling mud fields, and towering geysers. Icelanders trace their family tree back to the Viking conquerors. A rugged island shrouded in fog and "the smoking bay", Reykjavik, according to legend, was designated by the sea as the home of the first settlers. In addition to the rich past, our film also presents the present and the 21st century possibilities for exploiting special natural resources. We also visit the lesser-known, tiny Danish autonomous region, the Faroe Islands.
