Irena Dousková - Hasek a bear

Jaroslav Ha¹ek, a bohemian known for his coarse humor, does not deny his reputation even when he is very ill. In 1922, he returned to Lipnice to finish the ©vejk. The former enthusiastic tourist barely makes it to the pub on his swollen legs, but he still indulges his greatest passion with gusto: he scandalizes his neighbors, his Siberian wife or the parish priest one after the other with his jokes and slick verses. But at night, as the mountain wind howls in the chimney, his teasing mood fades, and a pale man faces the coming darkness.

Irena Dousková collected the material for her novel for ten years in order to write the last months of the most original creator of Czech prose. Sparkling in his dialogues and storytelling, he evokes the ¹vejk grotesque.
