Nahid is accepted to medical school, in honor of which the proud family organizes a big celebration. That evening, she meets her future husband, Masud. Not long after, the revolution breaks out, which for young people is equivalent to a shower of stars. They feel immortal. But it seems they have to pay a price for freedom that they never dreamed of. If they don't want to lose everything, they have to flee Iran.

Thirty years later, the barely fifty-year-old Nahid awaits death in Stockholm. He is angry at his illness, at the doctors, at life and at his daughter. For everything that has to do with fighting. But as soon as one life dies, a new one is born. Maybe it wasn't all for nothing after all?

Nahid often remembers their escape. Wondering if they did it right? It is difficult for him to answer this from the perspective of decades, when everything has become complicated and tangled. She recounts with brutal honesty the mistakes she made, the unrelenting motherly love and her faith in the next generation.

I have to tell you is a wonderfully beautifully written mother-daughter novel, in which loss and joy of life vibrate, anxiety and fear, which sooner or later we all have to face.

Golnaz Hashemzadeh Bonde was born in 1983 in Iran. As a small child, he fled to Sweden with his parents. He debuted in 2012 with his novel Hun är inte jag (He is not me). Founder and executive director of a non-profit organization fighting marginalization.
Hashemzadeh Bonde lives in Stockholm with her husband and daughter. This is his first book in Hungarian.
