Kraken investigates another serial killer after his first love, the pregnant Ana Belén Liano, is found dead. The young woman's life is ended according to a 2,600-year-old ritual: she is burned, hanged by her feet, and then immersed up to her neck in a Bronze Age cauldron full of water.
In the second part of the novel trilogy, the detective we met in the silence of the white city is only half-recovering from the injuries sustained during the attempted murder against him, when he has to face new trials: he has to apprehend the culprit who kills not only in the sacred places of the Basque Country and Cantabria, following the pattern of Celtic water sacrifices , but he also has to reckon with his own past and that of his friends.
Moreover, one by one, the killer's victims are future parents, and First Lieutenant Díaz de Salvatierra is expecting a baby, but it is not clear whose child it is.
