"The story of a theologian - determination and change; the background is the German Peasants' War."
New York Times
In the sixteenth century, the Reformation and Protestantism launched an attack against the exceptions, the Catholic Church, but they themselves quickly became an established and well-to-do power factor. The rural day laborers and the urban poor, for whom equality was promised in heaven, understood less and less why equality could not be realized here, in this worldly life.
The struggle between the comfortable Protestants and the rest, the destitute, became bitter. Several theologians stood on the side of the poor, such as Tamás Münzer, who stood out for his determination and tirelessness, and who left a lasting mark with his actions. He was the one who set Germany on fire. The War of the Poor is his story: a rebellion to spread the word. It belongs to the Peasants' War that took place in 1525-26.
In his characteristic style, Éric Vuillard evokes the series of events that took place almost five hundred years ago with cinematic scenes, which cannot help but remind us of the inequality that we see around us today.
