The concept of "dangerous beauty" appearing in the title of the book occurs in Lermontov's narrative poem "Izmail Bey" to characterize the life and personality of the main character, but contradictory images of the terrifying power of beauty also appear in the poet's other works (such as the soaring peaks of the Caucasus, the magnificent wilderness , but its menacing secrets, the tossing sailboat on the stormy sea). However, not only in Lermontov's art, but also in the world of other writers and poets, the problem of aesthetics, often contrasted with ethics, plays an important role in depicting the conflict, contradictions, and correlation of the Beautiful and the Good, as well as the desire for "sacred harmony" that seems unattainable under earthly conditions.
I have classified the studies in the volume - which actually form a Whole from a weave of interrelated, common motifs and themes in dialogue - into three large groups: the first two contain, in chronological order, aesthetic, genre-historical, philological and comparative analyzes of Pushkin, Lermontov, Tyutchev, Gogol, From the works of Belinsky, Turgenev, Tolstoy, Dostoyevsky, Saltikov-Shchedrin, Leskov and Vladimir Solovyov, the third larger unit includes chapters on the history of science and the history of reception, which also discuss the theoretical background and relationship system of the above questions.
