Product description
Dezső Csejtei (1951-) historian of philosophy, literary translator, Hispanicist, professor emeritus of the University of Szeged. His main research area is the history of Spanish and German philosophy, as well as philosophical thanatology.
Colombian philosopher Nicolás Gómez Dávila (1913-1994) spent most of his life in his private library in Bogotá. His masterpiece is the more than ten thousand marginal notes, which he published in five volumes during his lifetime. He considered himself a "reactionary" thinker.
This volume is the product of the "collaboration" of two authors, Gómez Dávila and Dezső Csejtei. On the one hand, it offers a wide selection of the marginal notes in which the Colombian thinker expresses his views on leftism, liberalism, revolution and progress, often in a witty form. On the other hand, Dezső Csejtei's comments, products of free imagination and personal formulation, are connected to the marginal notes. They try to compete with the marginal notes in their brevity as well as in their ironic, sometimes humorous tone, and the deep bitterness with which the two authors view the world of modernity permeates them. As a result of this "collaboration", marginal notes and comments enter into a symbiosis that can encourage the reader to ponder further.
The volume is completed by a preface that briefly analyzes Dávila's work.
