What is collagen?
Collagen is the primary connective tissue of our body, a key protein that ensures the cohesion and elasticity of the skin, cartilage and bones. It is also a structural building block of connective tissues, hair, nails, tendons, muscles, and joint cartilage. Collagen makes up 75% of our skin and 30% of the total protein mass of our body.
Why do we need collagen?
As time progresses, our body's collagen production slows down, then decreases and finally stops completely.
Why is it important for collagen to be hydrolyzed?
During hydrolysis, the chains of very long molecules of collagen are "cut", making them easily digestible and useful for the human body. Gelatin is often mistakenly used as a synonym in common language, even though they cannot be equated. Household gelatin is not hydrolyzed, so in order to use the same amount of active ingredients as from hydrolyzed collagen, you have to consume a much larger amount of it. The same goes for jelly, pork skin, chicken feet, etc...
In terms of the utilization of collagen, what should you pay attention to when choosing a collagen preparation?
1. It should be hydrolyzed collagen. During hydrolysis, the collagen molecular chains become easily digestible and usable by the human body.
2. Have as high an active ingredient content as possible. The vast majority of research results are usually based on the daily consumption of 5,000-10,000 mg of collagen (in the case of pork and beef collagen).
3. Also contain or consume vitamin C, which contributes to the utilization of collagen and stimulates our body's collagen production.
What came first? Liquid collagen, powder collagen, collagen capsules/tablets? Or what are the differences and similarities between these products?
Well, this is not a typical case of the chicken and the egg! ALL collagen products start their career in POWDER form. After that, the manufacturer/distributor of the finished product decides in what form it will be delivered to the consumer.
So:
1. Each of the listed preparations starts from a powder format!
2. From the point of view of execution, the amount of the active ingredient per tablet/capsule is limited by the size of the tablet and capsule. That is why it is possible that while one dose contains 5,000 mg of collagen in powder format, the same amount of active ingredient is available in capsules or tablets in up to 20 pieces or even more.
3. Preparations already available in liquid form - because
