Carmen Maria Machado - A female test and más összetevők

The female body and other components is the literary triumph of Carmen Maria Machado, during which she spectacularly destroys the arbitrarily erected walls between psychological realism and dystopia, comedy and horror, fantasy and fabulism. In her often surreal and provocative book, she uses these genres to create amazing narratives that show women's everyday lives and the external forces that affect their bodies. After its publication in 2017, the volume was honored with a shower of awards: it won the Shirley Jackson and Lambda Awards, as well as the Brooklyn Public Library Literary Award and the John Leonard Award of the American Book Critics, and was also nominated for the National Book Award and the PEN/Robert W. Bingham, Dylan Thomas and World Fantasy Awards.

A wife refuses her husband's request to take off the green ribbon he always wears around his neck. A woman tells about her sexual encounters while an epidemic is slowly killing all of humanity. A clothing store salesperson working in a shopping mall makes a terrifying discovery about the conditions under which clothes are sewn. After a liposuction, an unexpected guest appears in the apartment. These sometimes down-to-earth, sometimes detached from our world, seductive and sexy, at the same time bizarre and caustic, humorous and deadly serious stories show women from all sides. The reader could long ago come across stories with a more original tone, more exciting and upsetting than the short stories in this volume.
