According to the belief of the Greeks - and other Mediterranean peoples, Arabs and Turks - this blue eye protects against eye contact and harmful looks. Based on the Greek belief, the so-called and#34;evil eyeand#34; (ματι), the evil eye is a negative force that is more or less present in everyone, but mainly blond, blue-eyed people have it. We can even do damage unconsciously with this power, it's enough to look or stare at someone or something for too long (it can also affect objects) - especially if we do it out of envy. That's why, although Greek parents are very proud of their children, they don't like us to stare at them, because the wrong look can make the child bewitched or earn the envy of the gods. For sure, to ward off the evil eye, the Greeks wear blue eye amulets around their necks and on their wrists.
