1342. Charles of Anjou lies on his deathbed. The Visegrád court is preparing for a funeral - and for the coronation of the new king, the only sixteen-year-old Louis of Anjou. Lajos learned a lot from his father's reign, but as soon as he sat on the throne, he immediately declared war - following in the footsteps of his main role models, Saint László and Alexander the Great.
In faraway Naples, some look askance at Louis' younger brother, Prince András. Szilárd Bátor administers his inherited Slavonian estate and is working on setting up an independent battalion. In the midst of all these events, a man with the strength of a buffalo sets off on an adventurous journey from his home in Bihar county, who throws millstones in anger, fights with hordes in the reeds, and shows the way to Buda with a pole made of petrens...
The Lord of the Empire is now the opening of the third trilogy in Szabolcs Bíró's large-scale series of historical novels. A new era begins: turbulent times are coming, but gold and blood, light and shadow, heaven and hell are all part of it. The road is as open up as it is down, and you never know what fate has in store for whom.
Bíró Szabolcs was born in 1988 in Dunaszerdahely in the highlands. He started active cultural activities at the age of sixteen: he spread his wings as a writer, journalist and rock singer. He debuted as a novelist in 2007 under a pseudonym. Since 2010, he has been publishing exclusively under his civil name, and considers the Middle Ages and Hungarian history to be his main subjects, but occasionally he nods towards other areas as well. In addition to writing, he sang actively for eleven years, mainly as a member of the rock band Csak Van. In 2011, as an individual entrepreneur, he also tried his hand at book publishing and event organizing. In 2014, he founded the Csallóközi Anjou Károly Bandérium, a tradition-preserving community, which helped a lot in creating the world of Anjou. Judge Szabolcs is a loving husband and proud father. He has lived in a wheelchair since he was a teenager, but he doesn't really know boundaries. In 2016, on the 690th anniversary of the founding of the Order of Saint George, he was knighted in Visegrád. In the summer of 2017, he became the Cultural Ambassador of Eger.
