Bernard Cornwell - Az empty trón (2022)

England is divided, torn apart by its internal contradictions with greater force than the Viking invasion. The ruler of Mercia is dying, with no legitimate heir. His wife is a fearsome warrior and a great general, but she has never ruled over any English kingdom - moreover, she must be without her strongest warrior and champion, Uhtred of Bebbanburg, who is struggling with a serious wound. The rivals who covet the empty throne are ready to cover the long-suffering country in blood. The tense situation also creates a chance for the rival West Saxons to finally annex Mercia. And while chaos reigns among the Saxons, this time the Vikings coming from the west are free to ravage the leaderless kingdom - and gather strength against the presumptuous Wessex.
England's future dances on the edge of a blade. More than anything else, a hero would be needed to confront the enemy threatening Mercia and ultimately decide the fate of an entire nation...
Bernard Cornwell's monumental series of Anglo-Saxon histories takes us to the birth of England and the age of the Viking Wars. From the book series, the BBC and Netflix made a highly successful TV adaptation entitled The Last Kingdom, which was filmed in Hungary. "Like Game of Thrones, only in reality."Observer
