Product description
Benedek Elek was born in Kisbacon on September 30, 1859 and died on August 17, 1929, while at work.
The Folktale Day, which is held every year on September 30, preserves the memory of His birth.
His readers and admirers refer to him as "The Great Storyteller". Generations grew up on his fairy tales and fairy tale translations and learned about the deep wisdom of his stories.
Benedek Elek was also strongly influenced by the folk tales of different cultures. By collecting and publishing Saxon and Romanian fairy tales, he made the nationalities fall in love and introduced the children to the essence of the fairy-tale kinship. But the transfer and translation of the fairy tale treasure of world literature, such as : in 31 editions of the Brothers Grimm's fairy tales, and in 18 editions of the most beautiful fairy tales of the Thousand and One Nights, he once again undertook to present the universal treasure of fairy tales. He did not translate the fairy tales word for word, but he did not falsify the original message, but gave it to his readers in his own delicious language.
The Hungarian reader, who as a child got to know Hófehérke or the oldies of the Thousand and One Nights in the translation of Elek Benedek, will put the book down disappointed.
In the introduction to the most beautiful poems of the Thousand and One Nights, he writes the following: Sherezádé's tales were written down by the sultan and placed in his treasury. These tales filled thirty books, but later the palace was destroyed, and many of these books were then lost. What remained was translated into almost every language of the civilized world. This is what I did too, children, choosing the most beautiful of these beautiful tales.
