The ferocious Baptist proselytizer Nathan Price, together with his wife and four daughters, gathers together in 1959 to preach the word in the depths of the Belgian Congo, which is about to shake off the colonial yoke. Prepared for everything, in their faith and in the truth, they certainly set out, but they soon have to realize that in the seething land of Africa, everything takes on a different, ominous meaning, whether it is a garden or the Bible itself.
