B. B. Alston - Amari and a dark erők

Amari Peters always believed that Quinton, her brother, was alive. Therefore, when he discovers a ticking envelope in his closet with an entry form for the adventure camp of the Office of Supernatural Affairs, he is already sure that this secret organization is the key to his brother's disappearance. While the world is threatened by an evil sorcerer and her classmates see her as an enemy, Amari feels terribly alone. But if he gives up and doesn't pass the adventure camp exam, he might never find out what happened to his brother.
Alston brings fresh air to the hero-discovers-he-has-magic genre with Amari's sharp-tongued, down-to-earth narration, and his mix of new, bizarre supernatural beings and classic witches and vampires. The richly constructed magical world feels familiar and unusual at the same time. Amari's situation, living in the shadow of his celebrated older brother, may be familiar to any younger sibling or perhaps a child with a famous parent, who later discovers their own values and abilities all the more happily."
Bulletin of the Center for Children
"The action-packed, magical world of the plot is inviting. An excellent young adult fantasy that will immediately create its own fan base. The author does not shy away from the topic of ostracism, social inequalities, or even racism, thereby providing a basis for discussion for school classes and families." School Library Journal
"He skilfully mixes magical fads with realistically depicted situations. The singular first-person narrative is characterized by vibrant, vivid images, an exciting plot, and strong messages about judgment. A remarkable start to the series!"
