The Kindle has a very long history, and Amazon rarely replaces them. There was a year when no model was updated. Now a new Paperwhite is on the table, and this is already the fifth edition in the line, and its predecessor was released back in November 2018. Of course, there are no earth-shattering innovations on the front of e-book devices, so there is no question that the masses were longing for a generational change.

Fortunately, Amazon has taken care of itself, and those who may be replacing the previous model with the new one will experience significant progress. The device starts right away with a 6.8-inch display, which still has a pixel density of 300 PPI, so it ensures a larger size without compromise. The company launched the product in two versions: there was also a Signature Edition of the Paperwhite, which features substantial extras, but the screen itself is the same.

17 LEDs ensure even surface illumination and the brightness is 10% higher than its predecessor. Of course, this is not of much importance, because e-book readers only need light in the dark. However, it is important to be able to adjust the color temperature, thanks to which the device can better protect the eyes when reading before going to bed. In addition, the Signature Edition model will also have automatic brightness adjustment, so it has an ambient light sensor. Until now, this was only the case with the Kindle Oasis.

Amazon ships the new Paperwhite with 8 GB of storage space, but those who request the Signature Edition version will also have an advantage in this area, as there will be 32 GB of space available. The devices will offer Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connection options, there is no need to count on a 4G LTE network modem. The structure will also provide Audible options for content consumers, and the 32 gigabyte model can also store a lot of audio books.

The new generation of Paperwhite has IPx8 certification, and in fact, in terms of water resistance, it even exceeds what is required for the certificate. The product can remain under water for an hour and can be submerged up to 2 meters deep. The e-book reader will only be available in black, but anyone can upgrade them with cases. Kindle will provide cases in several colors and materials for the product.

The Kindle Paperwhite will be able to operate for weeks after a charge, but the use of lighting will significantly affect the operating time. By definition, it will ask for charging as soon as possible if Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are also active next to the illuminated screen, these are all considered high consumers here. Interestingly, the company only mentions that the Signature Edition also offers wireless charging.
