Just an evening out. That was the plan.

Mothers of May - that's what they call themselves. Expectant mothers who gave birth in the same month. Twice a week, pushing a stroller, they meet in Prospect Park to share the fears, joys and worries of their lives revolving around the newborn.

When the members of the group agree to meet for a few drinks at a cool local bar, they are preparing for a relaxed evening, a short escape from the daily routine. But on this sweltering Fourth of July night, the hottest summer in Brooklyn history, something terrible happens: one of the babies is kidnapped from her crib. Winnie, the single mother, was reluctant to babysit six-week-old Midas, but the May Mothers assured her that everything would be fine. But Midas is missing, the police are asking awkward questions, and Winnie's private life is falling prey to a predatory media.

Although none of the group is close to the withdrawn Winnie, the three take the greatest risk to help find her little boy. And while the police ax the investigation, the media begins to look into the lives of the mothers, harmful secrets are revealed, marriages are put to the test, friendships are made and broken.
